Possibilities for the Glossa/Skopelos Library
The Glossa Library can now move towards becoming a public library with support from the National Ministries of Education and Culture and the European Union.
Glossa High School students and teachers can integrate work on the library into their curricula, and have been invited to use the library as an extension of their classrooms.
The current collection has been greatly expanded by the addition of the library of the Glossa Cultural Society.
Though they have yet to be delivered because of lack of storage space, boxes of books donated by friends at the University of Athens are waiting to be delivered to the library, and children's books have been offered by the Head Librarian at E.K.E.B.I., the National Book Center which represents the publishers of Greece.
There are individuals and groups in Glossa interested in finding and funding a larger building for the library, with space for an expanded collection of books and materials and rooms for computers, meetings, study groups, and homework, as well as a children's playground.
The Glossa Library will represent the best of Western democracy and freedom of access to information, which is the right of every person and the promise of a brighter future for our children and grandchildren. As the public library system grows in Greece, there is a greater possibility of a true Greek Renaissance.
